How To Help

Shahbad Fire Disaster:

On the March 21st 2011 afternoon while most of  the  people were away from their homes, a fire  started  in on corner of  ‘E’  Block of Shahabad  Dairy  ( where most houses were made of flimsy wood and dry grass to hold it together), and quickly spread to 87 houses burning everything on its way.

Some people tried to salvage their  valuables from the burning houses, and cried for  help, but  by  the time fire Department came it was too late. All the people lost their belongings and were emotionally devastated.

Kamla Devi aged 67 years was found crying sitting on  the ashes of  her burnt house, “I  lost  all my  saving and belongings  that  I  prepared  for  my daughter’s wedding in the coming week”, she  cried,! Rahul aged 10 years suffered from severe burn injuries on his back as a result of the fire.

There are many such stories emerging. The  immediate  need  is  for clothes, utensils food and rebuilding of their homes. The Government provided them with food as did other NGO's. COI has also taken  immediate steps  for the arranging food for the fire victims, and in meeting their  need  for  clothing.
